Well opened up the case, saw a sticker, then knew it had been repaired once before. Powered it up, did work, poorly. All metal side detected to about 2-3" and disc side was doing nothing. Decided to put it up for sale on ebay as-is in hopes of getting my money back. One bidder, from Russia, shipping was going to be about $364, sent an invoice, no response, had 0 feedback. Figured the shipping charge was more than anyone can bare, so I let him know that I would cancel the transaction.

Decided to rip it apart today. Must have leaked and noticed extensive resoldering, trace repairs had been done, you could see all the new shiney solder joints. Horrible job all the way around. Not something I would have expected from this particular person who does repairs. Not sure if the overall repair done was fully successful. Too much lube was used to seal the lid and o-ring, mess to clean up.

Did see on the bottom of the board "Tesoro Silver Sabre Rev. B"

Looks like all the wiring will have to be redone, one wire was broken off, looks like two capacitors have slightly bulged tops. Small crack in the case hidden under the decal on the front side--easily repaired.

I don't have a lot invested into this detector, so it was worth the Gamble. The case is still usable for another project, headphones besides the padding are fine and the search works fine just needs some cosmetic fixing. The armrest and lower rod can always be used..... Will take a good look at the circuit board and see if its worth reviving, or build a new one.

Did have a copy of the orig. manual. I saw a flaw in the instructions, might be a reason many units leaked. The manual states to use "Vaseline" to lube the rubber o-ring. Big mistake, it swells and ruins o-rings. The only lube you would ever use is silicone grease specifically made for underwater housings. Commonly found at Scuba Dive shops and Photography stores that handle products for underwater use.

The Turtle has been put on the back burner until I get in the mood to tinker with it.
