A little bad luck discovered while making preparations for WTHO

That is most unfortunate Rich, was it in the environmental cover when you got hit by the rain storm?

YIKES ! Was it supposed to be ? eye popping smiley Ummmmmmmmmmmm. no.

Perhaps I should explain. Old Yeller was a left handed version of the CoRe and while the controls are reversed for us lefty's, the covers are made for the right handed versions. There are holes cut in the front of the clear cover for the control handle and the coil cables to connect to the control housing and one in the back for the headphone jack if I remember correctly.

On the right handed versions, you simply unzip the cover along the edge on the side of the controls and lift up the plastic in order to make setting adjustments on the control panel protected beneath. On the lefty version, the panel that lifts up is on the wrong side. confused smiley Ooops.

I thought I might be able to make adjustments with the cover in place, but the material is thick enough that doing so wasn't practical. Also, at some point you have to change the batteries. The battery compartment is right next to the settings. Kind of a hassle.

So, short story long, I elected NOT to use the cover as it made setting adjustments really really difficult. I was a little bummed about this and it would have been nice as the cover helps keep the control housing free of little bumps and scrapes as well. I had thought about flipping the cover around and cutting new holes in the front and back but thought that having a bunch of extra holes in the cover kind of defeats the purpose of the cover.

What about the cover for the handle? It was not in use either. sad smiley And I think this is where my problem actually started, water getting down into the handle display. It was the first thing that stopped working when the rain came down. . . . . .

Are the covers up to the task ? For the righty Relics / CoRe's, I will say yes.

I've been detecting a pretty long time (70's) and this is the first time I recall being caught in a downpour where I was concerned about my detector getting wet.

Curious as I keep the covers on my Relic all the time as a safeguard against such an event, be nice to know if they aren’t up to the task as we get plenty of rain on the coast.
Now I have a couple of waterproof machines to fall back on when I know I am going to get soaked.
Hope you can line up a nice replacement Core.
Regards,
Drew.

As for finding a replacement, Gregg is sorting through the detector bunker seeing if he can find some parts. thumbs up Having been to the bunker, I am hopeful.

Yes, the Bandido II µMAX has long been a 'must-have' for me.
