We are talking Tesoro's and most of them have a similar circuitry design with reguard to the motion Discriminate mode coupled with the All Metal mode when it comes to Ground Balance.
** The Threshold-based All Metal and Pinpoint modes are the same. Only a difference between Auto-Tune and static. The Discriminate mode GB is tied in with the All Meta / Pinpoint mode GB, except with most Tesoro models, the Disc. mode's GB is 'offset' in the circuitry design to be slightly positive from the All Metal mode GB.
Why? Because if it is too negative from the ground mineral environments there will be falling. So if 'preset' too negative for someone's ground condition, it will false. If designed with a positive off-set, no falling.
Now, if a Cibola has a **PROPER** modification so as to behave like its big brother, the Vaquero, then all the operator needs to do is make sure the unit has a properly-set GB that is maintained as they encounter and ground mineral changes when they are hunting.
If it lacks an external GB conttrol and is just a 'preset' GB Cibola as designed, then I treat it the same as my preset Silver Sabre microMAX. I make sure it has the coil mounted that I will always use, then find some of he most mineralized ground or rock in the areas I hunt. I will the set the Sensitivity as high as possible w/o EMI, turn the Disc. Control to the minimum setting, then 'Power Balance' the GB in the silent-search Disc. mode.
You do this by simply bobbing the coil from about 8" down to about 1" over the very mineralized substance. While doing this, you adjust the GB control CC, or towards the Negative side slowly. When you hear a 'Beep' on the
uplift of the coil away from the ground in that silent-search DisC. mode ... STOP !
That's an indication your Disc. mode is slightly Negative. So continue to bob the coil and slowly, gently increase the GB control just until there is no 'Beep' on the uplift of the coil away from the ground and STOP. That indicates the Disc. mode now has a peak GB for the most efficient performance.
Once completed, the AM or Pinpont functions might be just a bit negative, but they will work fine if selected when the coil is at a proper coil-to-ground relationship.
