Thoughts on nuances and frequency

I always found it interesting how I could tell what the target metal type I am digging with just a beep from my Tejon. Curious how good targets like gold and silvers had softer sounds than aluminum tended to sound (not counting foil).

Interestingly the Tejon is on the high side for frequencies as far as Tesoro's go running at 17.5khz which is very close to the Lobo at 17.8khz. Compare that to the more popular 10-10.5 and 14khz models.

My thoughts are as high frequency machines are more sensitive to low conductors and low frequency machines are more sensitive to high conductors then a machine running in the middle of the typical range of vlf machines ie 17-18khz is the sweet spot that hits the middle of our target ranges like aluminum. This makes the less responsive silvers and gold have a nice roll tone and those pull tabs and cans sound extra loud and harsh. Instinctively though you can lose depth on the desired targets makes them more appealing to dig as they simply sound better.

Maybe this is why Jack Gifford chose that frequency for the Tejon?
