Re: It's going to take more than mojo for White's.

For several reasons--I think Whites is pretty much done/finished.----Sad to say---I started with a Whites many years ago & I hope they can survive these very trying times---but I think "the writing is on the wall".-----Del

Sadly, I don't see anything happening. Who, out of curiosity, is their lead design engineer ... or any engineer for that matter?

Look at the marketing efforts by Nokta / Makro for any model especially their $299 Simplex +. And it is a lot of detector for the money, and it works very well, too. Minelab didn't do the greatest job at introducing the Vanquish series, but did a pretty fair job with videos and such, and I also enjoy the performance and features of my V-540 Pro Pack with two coils and wireless headphones for an impressive price.

Now we have the Garrett APEX priced at $499.95 with a nice-looking package and some really good features, and I am honestly hoping that it will bring us some significant improvement in performance. It's not even out yet, but we ... everyone everywhere .... now had the chance to see what's coming in a very decent video introduction. I already stated on a couple of Forums that I have adjusted my detector team and made room on my den wall for one. It looks like we are seeing some product advancement from Garrett, and I'm glad.

The last big-news introduction from White's was for the MX Sport, and the videos were a joke and the first releases were just terrible with a lot of problems. Granted, they finally got the things fixed with the MX Sport, but where has White's been? They do have a very good $599.95 detector now in their like, the MX-7 that is essentially a land-based MX Sport, but it's been around for 2½ years without any really impressive marketing as we see from other detector makers.

And fortunately we haven't seen them trying to mass-promote their $499.95 Treasure Pro which by comparison to almost anything is a joke in both packaging and performance. At this point, I can see th folks at FTP coming up with a couple of models to compete with the APEX and the next tier up in the product line, but honestly, I don't see anything happening from White's. For th MSRP competition, what does White's offer in their product line today to compete with the Equinox or Vanquish series? The Nokta / Makro products like a Simplex +, Racer 2 or Impact, Multi-Kruzer or Anfibio? Looking at newer products from the last couple of years, they can't even come close the FTP's Fisher F44!

And now a Selectable-Frequency / Multi-Frequency Garrett ACE APEX with Iron Audio Volume and other features in a nice package for $499.95? Everything White's offers today, with the exception of the MX-7 and possibly the MX-Sport, is over-priced and has been over-priced for many years now.

Garrett has stepped it up and the competition is very solid between a few existing detector manufacturers, and I see it progressing. I no longer see that happening from White's. They've sat on their laurels too long, I believe, and I doubt we'll see a serious come-back with USA products.
