Thanks for including your mode choices, operating frequency and settings. I like to hear that information.
I have two sets of the Garrett MS-3 headphones. Those that came with my Apex & Z-Lynk purchase, and a set I got a month or so ago with the extra modules. Yesterday, out of curiosity, I got my 'other' set of MS3's out and they quickly paired up and worked just fine. I wanted to check them both with the Apex and my linked-up AT ProPointer. All was well.
So far I have briefly lost the wireless connection, but it was my fault. I'm right handed and I moved my Apex to my left hand when I kneeled down to recover a target. There was an annoying dog and I had set the detector over on my left side, and wanted to check a target with the coil. I grabbed the detector and moved it so the coil was toward me and the arm cup was away as the device was pointed straight out to my left on the ground. That put the control housing a bit too far and I lost connection. It quickly paired back up when I grabbed it to stand up and get back to hunting..
If right handed, the volume control should be on the left side and the On/Off button and red light should be on the right side as close to the detector as possible.
Matter-of-fact, I enjoy all the detectors in my outfit, but I especially like the comfortable headphones, very decent audio quality, and how easily and quickly the MS3's and Apex connect and perform.
