Monte after we talked yesterday and I reviewed the Garrett video about 3 times I too was able to get better performance from the Apex. I still can't get better than 6 out of 8 on my nail board even with consistent sweep speed and different heights. But I suspect mine is different than yours and I always did think mine was harder anyway. When I get he one you sent me in the mail I will retest.

As for the nails in a line with coins, I can also confirm better results when and only when the coil is 4 plus inches above the coins. I don't hunt that way. But now that we know what needs to happen to get the best results from the Apex, I or anyone else can simply adjust the coil height off the ground to get better performance in iron. That would only apply to surface targets though. deeper buried targets you will still have to hunt with your coil closer to the ground.
