And that comment could be....
"PLEASE ... GET US A DECENT SMALLER-SIZE SARCH COIL!!"
Just imagine what the Apex could do with a smaller, round-shaped coil
(Concentric or Double-D, but I'd favor a Concentric) on my
Nail Board or working any iron-littered old site or a modern place with a lot of ferrous and non-ferrous debris tossed aside.
Also, now that you have the 'official' and actual scale
Nail Board, all your future detector evaluations will be consistent. This also means you also know what I really like the Simplex + and it's performance with a slightly-smaller 5X9½ DD. Imagine what the performance might be if Nokta / Makro bring us a smaller-size coil as well? It ought to out-perform the mid-size coil, for sure.
And it is also evidence for some folks that search coil size, type and shape can play an important role in performance afield, but it's also an indication how some detector circuitry designs fall way short, even with an 'OK' size and type coil. For example, I do like using my Minelab Vanquish 540 in modestly littered sites, referring to Nails or other Iron, but on the
NBPT it doesn't come close to the Apex or Simplex +, and that's using the SMF operation with the 5X8 DD, an even smaller-size coil than the Apex or Simplex +.
The
Nail Board Performance Test 'kit' I sent Steve didn't arrive in Garland, TX until 5:29 PM today and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. I guess Monday will be the day for him to put it together and use Garrett's own 'official' test piece.
