If you read diggindeep's reply below, I agree with some of what he said.

Yes, we each have a little different take on the Apex's abilities.

I prefer my 'Custom' Disc. setting of Accepting all Disc. segments from '20' on up. That way I hear a bit more Iron, and I like that, and because with some Discrimination is in use, I can take advantage of the Iron Audio function on a momentary basis to check some suspicious targets that might be Bottle Caps or Rusty Tin, etc. I also like having the Iron Volume adjustment to keep the response at a lower loudness level.

Andrew is corrct, thei entry model in the Apex 'series' (I hpe it will be) doesn't have rcovry Speed adjustment. howevr, with what it offers, I have found the Apex recovery in a busier debris site to be pretty good, and for the coil it is equipped with, the Iron target handling has been 'above average' compared with quite a few other modern detectors I own, have owned, or have evaluated.

The Apex does need a slower and methodical sweep speed to better handle a dense amount of trash, but most detectors do for peak efficiency.

The Apex is very light weight. Has a long-running battery life. Is comfortable and easy-to-use, and the overall performance can only be enhanced once the folks at Garrett develop a smaller-size search coil for us. I do have good hopes for continued favorable performance from this mid-priced and versatile detector when optional search coils are made available. That' why I own 2 Apex models. One to be equipped with a smaller-size coil for the busier sites, and the other with the 'Viper' coil for 'fringe-area' hunting or to us as a 'scouting unit' in more open areas, or just searching a wide-open park or yard.

Coinboy, I'll gladly share my comments and experiences about the Apex.
