* The sort-of mid-size 'Viper' coil works as well as it does considering its longer front to rear length.
* The 5X8 'Ripper' does not lose any performance, but does provide a lighter weight and handier design shape to fit in and around some brush and trash.
* And although the 'Raider' coil is a little wider for some Improvement in depth, it still maintains the very good performance the other two coils have for a lot of the trashier conditions we might encounter. In other words even though it's slightly larger there was not a significant decrease in performance like I see with some other detector Brands when you go from a mid-sized to a larger size coil.
I'll get a spare lower rod for the 'Raider' and keep it ready for use in the wide-open grassy parks or if I work a plowed field or similar open area. The 'Ripper' is definitely going to be my regular use coil, and that will be complimented most likely by the 5" NEL Sharp to make a versatile 2 detector / 2 coil set-up.
I am planning a detecting jaunt in the next couple of weeks after I have my coil covers attached and the NEL Sharp on my second Apex. If it stays half pleasant there and we don't get a wintry blast, I should work in three or four days to get comfortable with these coils.
