That 5X8 DD is a
'just right' mid-size coil for a lot of my search locations. It can also do well in most sub-brush areas where we can find a lot of missed or over-looked 'keepers' if we work a coil in close near the base of some dense sagebrush and other vegetation.
As a rule, I'll usually outfit myself with a 5" to 6" round coil, but there are times some other picks on the right detector work well. For me, the Ripper is always going to be mounted and used on the Apex. If I want smaller to squiggle around in and around challenging brush or very dense Iron, I have the CoRe, Relic, Racer, Bandido II microMAX and F75+ all properly mounted to a smaller-size coil.
