For those that like light machines the Raider is not for them. The main reason I got it was for beach hunting simply because there is a lot of wash here in the North East and much of that is sand that is trucked in. Running a PI can be a daunting task here especially after a storm because the lobster traps get broken up and scattered all over the place.
There probably isn't a whole lot of difference in depth when comparing the Raider and Reaper, would make a nice chart to do a depth chart of the coils.
Last year I strained my elbow hunting a field with my Tesoro with widescan coil as I had the shaft extended more than usual to cover some ground. Since then I have been favoring the smaller and lighter setups. Wasn't that long ago I was swinging the Nel Big on my AT Pro but that novelty of extra depth and lack of separation wore off quick. Raider is a good compromise for depth in those areas where it is needed and very usable for many. I can't say it would be an every day coil, just a good addition to the stock coil.
Of all my machines my favorite is the 9" Detech on the Apex and closely followed by the Tejon 10x12 widescan that I use in heavily hunted sites as it is a consistent producer and much like you I run that with good overlaps. Any iron blips I will back pass the coil at an angle checking for masked targets.
