Rich: the Equinox has been my primary detector since I purchased one last spring. It has replaced my F75 ltd2 as my primary detector and I'm comfortable with using it. I shortened up the shaft to work closer to my feet than I did with the Fisher and the balance with the big coil is better for me. Not happy with the battery or the headphone set up, but have a custom headphone extension cable for it, wired to the back of the armrest and using my Sunray Pro Gold phones with it. So my headphones plug in just like they do on my Fisher machine.
Mostly I have used the large coil and have figured out how to use the fast recovery and the pinpoint mode to separate targets in trashy areas pretty well. I have the small coil as well, but don't have much time on it. Mostly digging clad, not much in the way of old coins to be recovered here. Topsoil is very deep, and I routinely dig zinc cents and clad at 6-8 inches. It finds a lot of nickles and dimes on edge.

Hey Sodbuster,

I think I've made the same adjustments. I keep the lower rod at the 3rd hole from the top, this puts the coil just out front of my feet. I've had most of my previous detectors set up in similar fashion. Being tall, it is easy to set the search rod out way too far which throws the balance off. I mostly use the wireless headphones but have the adapter cable and a pair of good headphones as back up. (I found the Jimmy Sierra Maxiphone III headphones work with the Equinox setup) I zip-tie the 1/4" connector end of the adapter cable under the arm cup to the slot on the detector stand nearest me (I'm lefty) and plug the headphones in right under my elbow. Works slick.

I've not tried the BIG coil. There available most places now, but like other Minelab coils, aren't cheap. I have a couple places the additional depth would be useful.

Glad to have you here. Chime in with things that you've learned that may be helpful to others.
