Good, Better, Best . . . . .

April 10, 2019 06:09PM
jt,

My 800 has a similar audio feel to my previous explorer xs and etrac. Yet, it is also very different. It is a straight up Visual Target ID machine. No Ferrous / Conductive Screen to watch the cursor bounce around. Discrimination settings are different. The tones set up is more traditional. It can't do some things my etrac could. But it can sort things much quicker. And seems to have a good ability to unmask targets.

Still, there are a large percentage of people that bought them expecting something that didn't materialize for them. They were disappointed. So they moved on to something else.

I am at the point I am comfortable hunting with it in most situations and feel like I am doing as good or better in my general hunting than I have with any of my previous detectors. There are special situations where I currently feel like it only does good, but not great. Which is why I have a complementary detector that does Great where the 800 only does good. thinking Hope I didn't confuse everybody there.

Perhaps I can increase my skills and settings knowledge with it so it can do 'better' in some of these places. It takes time and experience to get there. We'll see.

i agree in principal with everything you have touched upon monte! i have no doubt we all have to find what works for us as individuals, and 'where" we are hunting.as you have mentioned, and i agree, there is NO perfect detector.
from the traffic i read on the forums,it 'would appear" that many, many veteran hunters have purchased this detector, and that,to me,speaks volumes because the guy that's been in the "trenches"(so to speak) seems to be convinced by his finds that this detector is providing the "edge" that's been desired for a long time when hunting in trash laden sites.i do see some being bought and sold, but the vast majority "love" it.i am NOT saying it's the best thing since rock and roll, but there appears to be a hell of a lot of them being bought by guys who have tons of experience! got to be a reason for this,as this didn't just happen overnight! i'm just sayin'

j.t., trying to figure out different detectors is difficult because there is no 'norm' in how we define 'trash.'
