Kickindirt:
Monte congrats on the new toy! Hope you really like it. Cant wait to hear your thoughts on that machine. I think you will find that the multi IQ tech has it's own set of unique rules.
Thanks, and yes, it is another 'toy', and just like a kid's toy you're either going to like it or not. Use it or leave it in the corner or toy box. It arrived Monday, and with better weather I have been out a little each day with it trying to get to know it better. Taking it along today on a ghost town hunt where dense iron hangs out just to give it a chance to impress me there. However, I determined before I ever bought it that it was not likely to be a good 'fit' in my Relic Hunting Team of detectors for a few reasons. The main reason is that it doesn't handle dense Iron nail or other ferrous challenges well.
I'm not saying it is 'terrible' in Iron, but I can assure anyone that it is not up in the better-class of Iron Nail or other annoying ferrous junk handling models I own and use.
However, as I sort out the tings I don't like about it, I am also acknowledging its strengths, and as an urban Coin & Jewelry Hunting device it is working well. Too many people offer up statements or forum posts that
overly-praise the Simultaneous Multi-Frequency detectors. They either don't have enough field-time in with them and also with a good single-frequency or selectable-frequency detector to learn and know the goods and bads of both ... or ... they are blind to reality and simply absorb a lot of the marketing hype those manufacturers put out.
Like the Equinox models, the Multi-IQ SMF can work OK for a lot of search site applications, especially when not too challenges by iron junk. But the EQ's design to allow the user to select Single frequency operation over simultaneous does have its advantage. I bought the 540 Pro package and have both the smaller 5X8 DD and larger 9X12 DD, but I'm only working with the "more useful"
(to me) 5X8 DD to handle the trashier places I'm searching. I'll get to the larger size coil when we move more into spring weather for open-area searches.
Doing several side-by-side comparisons with my four Relic Hunting models the Vanquish 540 w/5X8 DD can't compete with their handling when Iron Nail testing. And I don't care for the ratchet Pinpointing design, but at least it isn't
too fast. There was no User Manual, but even then they don't do a great job of explaining the functions for all settings or for the different pre-set search modes. A couple of other less-impressive things I'll mention in a product review. That said, there are enough positives that it definitely has a 'fit' in my Regular-Use Detector Outfit as part of my Coin & Jewelry Hunting Team, especially since I am trimming a lot of units lately.
