Dang guys, at least let George have a go with the AT Gold and see how it works for him before you string him up for not making the same choice as you.
Back in the late '80's, I used the first version of the White's Eagle for a couple years AND I DID
REALLY WELL WITH IT. I've not heard many that liked that detector besides me. (and Jimmy Sierra)
I bought mine from my local White's dealer Chuck Morris. He showed me know to set it up and run it. Said to pay special attention to any targets in the zone between square tabs and round tabs. I loaded the detector in the car and backed out of his driveway. Headed right over to a sports field not far away and started hunting the mid-field area. Boom, there was one of those targets right in between Square and Round tabs. Pinpointed at 5 1/2". I make a plug and pulled out my first gold ring, (14k) It even fit. Man was I jacked! I was so stoked that I jumped right back in the car and drove the 10 minutes back to Chucks place to show him the ring I found. He looked at the ring in my hand and then back at me; "You JUST found this? ", he asked. "It was just like you said", I told him.
I still don't know anybody that speaks very highly of the original White's Eagle. There's probably a few of us out there. Point is, a lot of people moaned and groaned about this or that. Meanwhile, I went out and found a bunch a stuff with mine. A bunch. Was the Eagle a bad detector? Depends on who you talk to. If you talk to me, it was a great detector, one of my favorites.
I've heard a lot of sayings like, "It isn't the rifle, it's the man holding it".
I'm gonna throw in with that.

Get out and go find something.
Best of luck in Alaska George. Looking forward to seeing you make some posts showing off GOLD NUGGETS !
