Dang guys, at least let George have a go with the AT Gold and see how it works for him before you string him up for not making the same choice as you. eye popping smiley
Knowing he has a Nokta Impact, and that provides 20 kHz selection, and he has the 5" DD and round 7" Concentric coils .. as well as more adjustability and a useful All Metal mode ... I just couldn't see the need for the AT Gold. Of course, with that said, I have to admit that to the very present I 'buy-and-try' a lot of detectors just to find out if their have a 'fit' in my personal Outfit. So if that's his plan as well, then great!

I'm curious to hear how he thinks the AT Gold will perform for him, and hope that if it is for Gold Nugget Hunting, that he enjoys some great success with it. For taking-on the nasty ferrous junk at a WTHO ghost town? I don't rate it very high.

Back in the late '80's, I used the first version of the White's Eagle for a couple years AND I DID REALLY WELL WITH IT. I've not heard many that liked that detector besides me. (and Jimmy Sierra)
I was working at Compass Electronics when the Eagle was introduced and generally I felt it was 'OK.' Mainly for Coin & Jewelry Hunting ,but not quite what I was looking for to tackle old, out-of-the-way sites I preferred. I had some friends in our detecting club in Oregon who liked it ... until they came out with that 'update chip.' Eventually they went to the second Eagle which worked or them, but the chipped original Eagle just didn't work as well as the original or the second version.

It is interesting how some detector will come along and just kind of 'click' with us better than they do with others. I'm waiting to hear how the Garrett AT Gold will 'click' with George.
