If I'm in heavier trash, i typically run 5 tones with the horseshoe on to manage the noise. If things are NOT so busy, I work with the 50 tones and horseshoe on.
I've been working on the Fe / F2 setting as well, using the newer F2 setting and see how low i can stand it and the results.
Prior to the software upgrade, i had my Ferrous setting on 2. If I went lower, my recovery rate of rusty bent nails went WAY up. At 2, I was consistently finding co-located coins in the rusty nails. And finding what I consider HARD targets.
Supposedly, the addition of the newer Ferrous settings under F2 improves the audio differences between ferrous / non-ferrous items. They audio differences are learned. I currently have my F2 setting on 2, which I believe correlates to the old 0 of the previous Fe settings. I have been digging more rusty nails and pieces of nails. The experiment continues as I work to find a good balance between rusty nails and masked keepers for my area.
