Congrats on the nice finds Rich. Is that nickel also silver ???

Gregg,
Maybe.

We can't REALLY call the 5¢ coins minted during WWII a nickel. During the war, nickel was an essential metal. It was removed from the 'nickel' and replaced with an even larger percentage of silver (35% silver compared to the 25% nickel). Both were alloyed with copper to make the final coin.
Seems strange we'd call a nickel "nickel" if it is really only 25% nickel and 75% copper. Perhaps we should call the War Nickel a
'silvered nickel' because the nickel was removed and replaced with silver ? ? ?
Now you're making me think hard . . .
Me thinks that Monte is going to just call it a War Nickel and leave it at that.
