Andrew, a nice batch of typical non-ferrous Ghost Town stuff. The kinds of things we recover that always keeps us going.

I had the Equinox 800 and 6" coil and I did like it, but for a few reasons I like my Vanquish 540 a little bit more and that's the one I kept and use. Ever since I got it oh, and Gregg stop by one day to check it out, he even noted that 5X8 Double-D coil was Justin nice-looking coil and commented that it would make a really good detector for Fringe areas where is a Scouting tool. I agree with both applications, but I also know it can be used for any Ghost Town hunt, knowing that it's going to be out performed on occasion in the really dense ferrous debris.

I like the ORX with the 5X9½ elliptical HF but I have enough detectors in my outfit to cover those needs, one being the V-540 with 5X8 DD, another the Simplex + w/5X9½ DD and a couple of others. Even the slightly larger 6X11 DD on the Apex can work fine for 'Fringe Area' or 'Scouting' purposes. Even another coil I put in the mid-size category and that would be a round 7" or 8" coil, like the 7" Concentric on an F5 or Omega or Racer 2.

And one of the reasons I like the V-540 is also one of the reasons why I think Gregg might like it better to fill his detector slot, and that is that it uses 4 replaceable batteries. He can use the NiMH rechargeable batteries that come with it or affordable alkalines, and that's a positive thing in its favor.

Our late fall weather and threat to Winter arrives this coming Wednesday night and that means some ghost town opportunities for Gregg and me are going to be limited for the rest of the year very soon. However, if we get a chance in the next couple of weekends when Gregg is off on a Sunday, I'll try to get him to use the Vanquish and a couple of other detectors in a challenging site so he can get a taste of what's out there to choose from.

And as this year winds down I hope you have another opportunity or two to get out to some good old sites again.
