OregonGreggFor those of you that know me, already know, and those that don't will figure out soon enough..........more often than not, poor ol' OregonGregg is dumb
Nope, I wouldn't say that. An old Packard-Bell computer like I bought in '96 isn't dumb .... it's just a slower processor.

I posted earlier that my Pro Stars & Z Lynks would not work or put out the volume on the Vanquish. Well as it turns out, that is not the case. The Vanquish uses a 1/8" plug so I had to get an adapter that was 1/8" male to 1/4" female so that I could plug in my Pro Stars & Z Lynks.
When using an adapter...........Make Sure the Adapter Is Plugged In Completely & Not Half Way.
When using any ⅛" mini-plug, be it an adapter, headphones, whatever, that Vanquish jack is tight and requires a very deliberate 'push' to get the plug fully inserted. We checked the adapter out on all three Vanquish devices at my place and that was the cause for '
temporary' non-function or poor-function.

OregonGreggThe Pro Stars, Z Lynks work great and very loud. I had Monte delete the earlier post because what I said was not correct.
Anyhow, I am happy again that I do in fact have headphone choices and prob will use the Z lynks on the 440 most of the time.
I really enjoy the Z-Lynks with my Apex devices and have the Tx/Rx adapters to use them or corded headphones with my other models. I just might fix the transmitter to the F5 to use the MS-3's because I don't like the headphone jack location for corded headphones. As for the two Vanquish units, I'll just enjoy the excellent ML-80s that came with each of those 540 Pro Packs.

I just got back from Monte's and I still also believe what I said earlier. If you are looking at the Vanquish series, I still think it's worth it to spend the few extra bucks and go with the 540 pro pack. With the new software upgrade you get Iron audio volume, the 540 has the low/high iron bias, double the segments which can be notched, and a backlight. It will also come with the Minelab ML80 wireless headphones.
I'd never want a 340. The 440 isn't a bad detector for a lot of folks, especially if they aren't really into detecting all that much or would want extra stuff like accessory coils or headphones, etc.
But the V-540 Pro Pack is, by far, one of the better detector values on the market today, and I feel it could easily be a decent general-purpose detector for a good majority of those involved in this hobby. Most hobbyists just don't advance, so-to-speak, much beyond the 'hobbyist' level. Those who do and take this sport more seriously and become an 'Avid Detectorist' still might enjoy all that the 540 Pro Pack has to offer. Why, I might even be an example from that group who is quite satisfied owning two of the 540's, each coil-equipped for the different tasks I'll grab them for.
And the additional features of the 540 Pro Pack to the still decent 440 include:
• 25 Discrimination 'segments' or 'pixels' or 'notches to the 12 on the 440. This can allow more fine-tuning if someone likes to use a Notch Discrimination 'pattern' of accepted and rejected segments.
• 5-Tone audio ID to the 440's 3-Tone.
• Low Iron Bias option to the default High Iron-Bias.
• 5-Levels of Target Depth to 4-Levels with the 440.
• A red Display Backlight.
• 4-NiMH rechargeable batteries and charger.
• Wireless connection for the supplied ML-80 Wireless Headphones.
• 540 'standard' 9X12 DD coil to the 440's 7X10 'standard' coil.
• The extra Pro Pack 5X8 DD search coil.
I bought the 540 without hesitation, and I am sure when you compare the added features and accessories that are in the 540 Pro Pack, you'll see why it is such an impressive value for any serious member of the metal detecting community.
