Monte I've hunted places with mineralization worse than out west and I know exactly what you are talking about and I actually don't mind the low iron audio falsing on the Vanquish. I actually prefer it to the blanking or choppy signal that's produced from not using it on deeper targets. It might sound strange to some but I prefer to hear everything including the ground noise. The Deus is the same way, I run the disc down to -6.4 iron audio ON even in heavy trash.
Yes Monte since you don't hunt areas with deep targets like I do them you should be just fine with the Vanquish. But since I hunt areas where I'm finding stuff down to 2 feet and beyond I prefer to use the deepest machine I can find. I know it's hard to imagine stuff that deep but it occurs in places more often that you would think. Just consider parks for example. 2 years ago I hunted a park where they where widening the road and adding curb and gutter. The construction company had literally taken off 12 inches of dirt and we were still finding coins from the 1930's six inches deeper. Yea you probably would have a hard time getting a clear shot at them with all the trash that existed above at one time. But still the stuff does exist deeper and sometimes you can get a clear shot at a deeper target in between the trash. Heck if I could get away with using a garden shovel at a park I would probably take my GPX but we both know that wouldn't be a smart thing to do. So the next best thing is a metal detector that has the best probability of correctly IDing deep silver and for me that's the Equinox and before that it was the Explorer 2.
