Rich----You've been to places most of us could only dream of going to.------I was thinking you said you handled rattlesnakes--must have been someone else.------As to the cactus spines----I hear yah on that---they can ruin a good day in a hurry.

Del,
Can't say I've ever been face to face with a poisonous reptile like a rattlesnake here in the US, or any of the deadly snakes in Australia, Asia, Central America, or the Middle East.
When the kids were young, we had a pair of corn snakes. My wife took them to her elementary school to show to her 2nd graders. They were there for just a few days and one escaped. You would have though a giant anaconda was roaming the halls. Nerves were on edge. The school was on high alert for the next couple months, teachers suspiciously moving boxes and items on the floor fully expecting a snake to jump out. It never did. Just disappeared. Eventually the escapee was forgotten about but the story lives on.
I've seen snakes and scorpions out in the desert. I'm more worried about the cactus getting me when I'm turned the wrong way or take a wrong step.

cactus spines are painful and a hassle to remove.
