seems odd! never had those issues so far,so not concerned! possible ya got a ''stinker?" ya say the 800 ran smooth.i guess that means the same thing did NOT
repeat with the 800..just assuming that! occasionally I dig deep iron, but not every nail in the ground no matter the depth!..maybe I am living right!..just sayin'

Ha ha no definitely dont have a stinker. The difference being the 800 can ground balance.
As UtahRich stated, the Vanquish 540 IS very 'likable' especially with the 5X8 DD coil. For so many people it will be liked and therefore it will be used, and they will find keepers, and they'll be pleased with it. I found the package, the changeable 4 AA batteries, the balance and feel, the 5X8 DD coil, and the basic simplicity to be 'likable'.
But after using it more and dealing with a wide-range of challenging ground mineral environments, and some hunting sites with abundant Iron Nails, and urban Coin Hunting sites around playgrounds and other active sites where I encountered 'pocket spills', I did NOT find the performance,
for me, to be likable. Had 3 V-540 Pro Packs, but after ample hunting time with in-the-field and side-by-side comparisons, they are gone.
Would operator-controllable Ground Balance have helped? Yes, in several ways it would have and I
might have hung onto one of them, but they still had other performance glitches.
