Re: Minelab Musketeer Advantage

I had a number of them, sold them and bought again. Couldn't figure out why.
After moving to Canada and buying two more at separate times. The last one I had worked great in a carbon fiber straight shaft, with Fisher CZ20 handle and rear mounted control box set-up. Very well balanced and didn't feel heavy.

Why did I sell the last two? Had nothing to do with depth. It was the disc min. setting, it would not report on Canadian clad on edge and had a tough time with much of the clad coins. If they were shallow to about 4" deep, no sound, if they were deeper, audio report was heard. Like auto surface blanking going on. So I would miss lots of clad quarters $ and $2 coins.
Biggest factor was masking. If there was an iron nail next to or within 3" of a gold ring. You would never hear the gold ring. Didn't even separate the two targets.
Believe I had an Nokta Impact at the time and it would clearly give me a high and a low tone for each item. As did the Kruzer and Anfibio. Deeptech Vista Gold....

In its day it was an excellent detector, cut thru Georgia's red clay dirt better than Tesoros. Many have fond memories of the Muskys, they sit in closets as most want to hang onto them. But, haven't used them for ages. It was pretty good on the beach with the large 15" orange Coilteck coil and trash picker with the 6" Excelerator coil. I should have never sold that 6" coil. So the 7" was the coil I always used. The 10.5" was a heavy beast.

For the money, folks want for a Musky these days is rather high $350 plus. Consider they went on sale by Minelab for $300 with 2 coils. At one point selling for as low as $150 and averaging $175-225.00. These days for less or a bit more money, you will get a much better modern detector.

Now if you just gotta have a Musky to see what all the fuss was about and don't live in Canada, no reason you can't go buy and try. You should be able to resell without too much of a loss.

The old muffler can Musky, Sterling or Tribune with the rare Supersearch Concentric coil were by the far my favorite but, for Canadian clad they had the same attitude as the Musky XS and Advantage.

I dig it with a Nokta/Makro product-Legend,
DeepTech Vista X and Blisstool V5 The Beast
