Rich-
It was good to have you come down out of the frozen mountains for a few days of metal detecting. Congratulations on the Silver Dollar and I'm glad I got to run the Manticore over the target before you dug it.
Story about the ring-I had some spare time on Friday, the day after I received the Manticore. Rich and I had planned on meeting Saturday morning to setup a test garden on the GSL to see just how deep our pulse induction machines would hit a US nickel. The machines we planned on testing are the GPX 4500, GPX 6000 and Garrett Axiom. After we both got Manticores on Thursday we decided to add the VLF machines to the test. I got out there in the afternoon and using a pipe marked with different depths I inserted nickels on the end of wooden dowels at 10, 12, 14 and 16 inches. The area is about 1/4 mile from the truck and on the first run I took the GPX 6000 and Minelab Equinox 900 down with me to run through the test. After I tested those 2 detectors I headed back to the truck for the Deus 2 and Manticore. When I got back to the site I fired up the Manticore on Beach Deep, sensitivity 21, ground balanced and started detecting my way out to the test area about 100 yards away. About 40 feet from shore I got a deep signal that was bouncing between 19 and 24. I was about to dig it but thought maybe I should film my first target with the Manticore so I turned on the GoPro. At about 13" deep out pops a small 14k 1.7 gram gold ring. Needless to say I was off to a good start. Never made it to the test area with the Manticore that day, just spent the rest of the time detecting. Stay tuned for the depth test and Manticore hunt videos at a later date.
Here is the YouTube video of the Equinox 900 and Garrett Axiom hunt for those that want to see it. I dug 2 gold rings and a Walking Half that day.
