Let's hope the year continues to be as rewarding, especially after you get more hunt-time in with you new detectors. The better you know them, the better they will work. As for that dark, icky and stinky layer, there are days it can be really bad, so I am glad I lost my sense of smell a dozen years ago. The last time I hunted there was summertime 2001 when there was a lot more water and that meant wetter dark goo ... a couple of friends from Oregon joined me on that visit as well, but because of that they never wanted to return. Too sensitive, I guess. Might have been because they were not finding very much.
Very cold but clear weather today and again on Friday and Saturday, and snow in some areas has cleared off, but I am sure the ground is frozen in most parks. Anxious to read your posts as you get out and use the newcomers.
