Rich, that was an interesting reply, but I was mainly looking for replies between the Equinox 800 and 900. The un-named individual doesn't like his name mentioned and we just use e-mails and phone calls. He started using the EQ-800 about the same time you did and never had an issue except for a broken coil ear on the 11", but had it taken care of. In a way he is like me and really doesn't care for an over-supply of adjustment functions, aka like to keep it simple. Took him a while to learn the EQ-800 but he likes the audio Minelab used. Honestly, for some hunting I do as well.
As for the Manticore, he knows a dealer that would give him a great deal, and also had a couple of friends eager to buy it from him if he didn't like it. That worked out because it was only a short-time investment and then he got his money back. He really likes the EQ-900 more than the 800 which will now just be used for times it might get wet or dunked. The 900 will be a regular-use land unit.
