Rich, that was an interesting reply,
As for the Manticore, he knows a dealer that would give him a great deal, and also had a couple of friends eager to buy it from him if he didn't like it. That worked out because it was only a short-time investment and then he got his money back. He really likes the EQ-900 more than the 800 which will now just be used for times it might get wet or dunked. The 900 will be a regular-use land unit.

Monte - It was meant to be funny - but like they say, if you have to explain humor to others, the 'humor' missed the mark.

I'll do better next time.
It is hard to compare notes with somebody that dropped out so quickly. Meaning your
anonymous contact getting a Maniticore cheap, having a quick 'go' with it, than flipping it to some anxious buyers for some $$ - invalidates himself from my consideration. That 'review' goes in my wheelers and dealers trash can. I can't trust that.
There are some really good detectorists around that will take the time to give a new detector a really hard look and share their opinion with others. That is useful to me. This
have a quick go is the equivalent of a metal detector one-night-stand or dropping out of a long distance race after the first 100 yards. Tells me they were never really serious about the endeavor to begin with other than perhaps, making a little extra $$. Not interested.
When I give feedback on a detector, it is certainly just my opinion, part of which is subjective. Some AHRP's visitors don't really give two shakes of a snakes tail what i think about a given detector. We may have different hunting styles or interests. A few have an interest in my opinion as I do theirs. For me, these are worthwhile '
opinions' to take into consideration.
As for me and my Manticore, I'm taking some queues from Andrew, who is very savvy with a detector, and keeping an eye on reports from other early adopters to see how they are doing with their own shake down processes. I'm off to a good start with targets found, but there is still a long ways to go before proficiency is reached. And then I have to compare my proficiency with the manticore against my proficiency with my 800. How do they compare when I'm using them? Somewhere well down the road I will have a solid opinion on how the Manticore stacks up to my 800. Till then the best i can do post an occasional field reports dabbled with my observations to that point. Or not.
Some would rather I keep my opinions to myself and it is a lot easier for me to do that than sit here and work thru putting thoughts to screen.
Best of luck to those testing their 700's, 900's, Manticores or other new detectors. Looking forward to a great year.
