I used to be in the wait and see with new detector camp. I started with BFO machines in the early 1970s and as soon as I could afford them moved to the VLF's running Compass and one of my all-time favorite units the Whites 6DB. I moved to the Whites 6000 series and did well with them in the 80s. I tinkered with a Teknetics 8500 when some of the designers broke from Whites in 84. That was my first analog meter Target ID machine, and it worked fine in gentle mineralization but not great in difficult ground. When Whites came out with their Eagle2 and Spectrum series. I did not take well to the new Whites ID units and moved to the Fisher 1200 series. In the mid 2000"s I went to the Fisher 3CZ6. Then in 2019 I broke down and got the Nox800. I took to the machine and its new to me technology and in short order made several finds of a lifetime. Now at the age of 65 I have decided to embrace the new machines. Hopefully I will have many more years of detecting ahead of me but ya never know so I'm in the camp of get out and detect with the newest technology NOW. I've had many detectors that were difficult to interpret and often left me wondering what I had missed. I really am enjoying the Manticore...it's a fun machine that has for me anyway an easy user interface.
I do have a question for you. I have been running 3-5 on sweep speed but am wondering if I should bump it up a notch to better differentiate signals close to each other. Then when I learn the machines multiple ID response better go ahead and back it off to squeeze some extra depth...your thoughts? I look forward to this summer and comparing finds!
