That way your 2¢ and my 3¢ will tally up to 5¢ and maybe 'zincoln' will change his name to 'Buff' or 'OregonBuff' or GF5¢OA. The 'OA' would be Offered Advice for the programs he likes to use with each detector, and his suggestions of coil choice and such.
Brian, and several others, have put in some excellent time afield, made some noteworthy finds, and as you stated, it isn't only location but learning and understanding their detectors and being patient and persistent. Brian has recently taken on learning the XP Deus and, like two others we've head from, Utah Rich and Remfire in Oregon, they have also taken on the Deus and learned in and have made some wonderful finds. In Brian's case he also devoted time and effort to get a good grip on the White's V3i. I tried with mine when first released and then the final version when I was a dealer, but for my sites and the way I have hunted for so many decades, the V3i and I just didn't get along.
I have other detector models for the types of paces I like to hunt and the Deus units I used just didn't appeal to me. I think one reason was because the owners had them set for 'Full-Tones' which drove me nuts where we were hunting. Besides, I enjoy 2-Tone and 3-Tone a lot and the XP
ORX appealed to me because it is a 3-Tone model.
I spent November 8th thru December 14th in the Hospital and then Rehabilitation Hospital and had to use my phone for any internet visits, so I had a lot of "down time" which I spent as best I could. I had that opportunity to go back over the last several years and look at Forum Posts made by OregonGregg (which doesn't use one of those detectors), UtahRich, Remfire and Zincoln. I read and studied the location or types of sites they hunted, the detector's used, coils used and setting information they provided.
And as I got to thinking about maybe taking on the Deus, partly due to the lightweight configuration and my physical limitations, they introduced the Deus II. I don't swim and I get around with a cane (or hope to again by spring) also I won't be diving or going out into the water, but there were things I saw I like. New button type, new and perhaps improved modes, and other stuff. What I really like is you can turn it on in the default General mode and it is a 3-Tone function detector. I like that.
I need to continue to work on my rehabilitation so I can get out of the wheelchair and away from my walker and get back to getting around with a cane again. That's my goal by spring. And that means I need to get a new Deus II and start learning all I can about it.
I am not sure about the folks I mentioned who all make terrific finds, but especially Remfire, UtahRich and Zincoln because it wouldn't surprise me in the least if all of them also make a move to 'upgrade' to the new Deus II. That means they'll be out using it as soon as they have huntable weather, and that then suggests we are likely to hear about both interesting finds being made as well as comments related to the new detector, as well as settings they have fund appealing, coil choice, mode choices and settings desired.
There are a lot of readers I hear from who remark about those posts from Brian, Roger and Rich, as well as Gregg the Nokta / Makro man,
because so often they have a very interesting story to tell about their activities and the impressive finds they make. Let's all hope we can get out more and make some rewarding hunts of our own so we can shire our stories in 2022.
