Early January gave us a weather window of opportunity to detect with diggable ground in areas that were covered in heavy grass and exposed to sun. Temperatures for hunting ranged from 29 - 44 degrees with the 29 being the lowest temperature that I've ever attempted to hunt.

Interesting phenomenom that I encountered was clad dimes with frozen soil around them, so they appeared as a small rock or clump when the ground was excavated. I hunted a bit for a couple of them before I figured it out. They were not frozen solid and could be broken easily with fingers but they were still half frozen with frost crystals evident in that soil. There was frost on the grass and the ground temperature was probably right at 32.
