All the new machines have built in batteries and this can make them disposable rather than repairable. There are a lot of drawbacks with having an internal lithium battery system. Those batteries are inherently noisy for starters. They throw a lot of heat that can degrade components nearby. They are difficult to replace especially in units that are submersible. What happens 3-4 years down the road when the unit is discontinued like the Kruzers and that particular battery is also discontinued? I am running into exactly that issue now with my Kruzer and support is lacking. Fortunately I have an external battery pod but that comes with a cost of extra weight and wires.
I agree, when Nokta/Makro started down that path of Submersible/Waterproof machines and internal lithium batteries, I started to stock up on some extra CoRes. There is nothing wrong with that, Submersible/Internal batteries have their place, and a lot of people like that.
However, making it the only option I feel was a mistake. I have never had the need for Submersible machines. They should also have offered a good land-based machine that ran on AA batteries and be able to plug your headphones in under the arm cup and not out of the back of the housing and only then after having to use an adapter to do so etc etc.
I have not had any interest in any new machines that have been released. Plus all machines from the Kruzer on still will not outperform a CoRe/oor coil combo when it comes to unmasking in an iron-filled trashy ghost town.
Hopefully someday this waterproof/non-replaceable battery "only" fad will come to an end and manufacturers will offer more options such as Waterproof and Land based machines.
If not, that's ok too. I have enough CoRes hidden in the bunker to get me to that day when I head off to that Ghost Town in the Sky.
