School site Indian

I drew an antelope tag this year and spent Monday and part of Tuesday scouting likely locations. On the way back home this afternoon I stopped for a short hunt at the site of an old school. All that is left is a small crumbling concrete foundation. I have hunted here before as well as a couple other forum members.

It was hot and my attentiveness quickly wained as there were a lot of rusty tin flakes which sound pretty good, as you know. I recovered several modern bullets and a couple tobacco cans and was almost back to the pickup, parked in the shade with cold water beckoning, when I got a signal worthy of a dig. The TID was jumpy but it had a good tone one way and a broken tone with a 90° swing. A pass with a pinpointer located a small nail about 1 1/4” long but there was still something in the shovel of dirt from the hole. A little finger sifting of the sandy dirt and I located a 1907 Indian head, my second with that date in less than a month.

I’m sure the nail was very close to the coin and caused it to be partially masked. I was using the 5x9 coil, using several programs, but found the IHP with program #2, GM Power.
