Back to the bivouac

Yesterday was supposed to be the nicest day of the week so I made plans to take a friend back to the area where I found 8 coins last week. He is a Deus user and I’ve been trying to get him over an old coin on several hunts. Turns out the weatherman was half right; the temperature wasn’t too bad, but the wind made the chill factor unpleasant.

We found a few ration cans and Rick found a shelter half (poncho) snap and an unfired .30-06 blank cartridge, but still no coin for him. I lucked over a beautiful 1939 nickel (edging closer to a buffalo) and a 1909 Philadelphia mint Lincoln cent. Not as valuable as the one I found last year but still cool, being 111 years old. I also found a blank cartridge, a stripper clip, and a US Army trouser button.

I used my 11” coil because targets out here are sparse but I took my 9.5x5 just in case I found a place with numerous targets. We both worked the area I found all the pennies last time but found nothing new, even with different programs and coils. I was trying a custom program attributed to Calabash Digger. The 1909 Lincoln cent was 7 1/2 inches deep and didn’t show a TID, just a sweet, consistent squeak, and the right tip of the horseshoe showing.
