Saturday was spring, today not so much! That’s the way it is here this time of year. I only had time for a short hunt so I went to an old school site where I (as well as many others) have hunted lots of times. I have used every detector I have owned here, and often go just to try out new equipment. The site has many nails and tin flakes but has given up a steel penny and a buffalo nickel in recent past. It is adjacent to a modern church and does get some foot traffic from the homeless population, but most of the trash is “vintage.”
This trip I used my 9.5x5 coil and my “digger” custom program. I found a half dozen pencil ferrules which sound like nickels, a few modern Lincolns, and a 1988 100 Peso coin. The pen nib was the find of the day, as it was a surprise. The signal was one of those XP specials, one way but nice audio and no TID. 4” deep and under a small lava rock it was hiding in an area I have crisscrossed with many machines and coils. Maybe it was the high frequency or just luck, but it made me feel good to find it, and it’s gold plated!
