I got invited to hunt the slopes of our local ski resort yesterday. I had hunted the parking lot area in the past but never the actual runs. I knew UtahRich had experience hunting in his area and he gave me some great tips.
We rode the lift up almost 1400 feet and started hunting downhill. The hunt started slow for me, mostly pennies and a dime, but I crossed into another run and started finding quarters almost every zig zag across the run. Not much trash except ski/snowboard hardware. I tried to hit the oldest runs as the resort started in the 1950s. Many coins (no silver), a few ski related pins, but no jewelry, the best find was a 1971 Kennedy half. After a long day (10 am to 5 pm) I found 96 coins including 36 quarters.
1400 vertical feet is a lot to cover in the time we were up there and getting back to the parking lot on time meant going too fast to be thorough, especially in the lower runs. Steep downhill means wear good lace up high top boots, and take a lunch and plenty of water.
I was using my XP Deus with the 9” X35 coil, mostly in a custom program based on Deus Fast, but checked some targets with the GM Power program. The Deus was a great tool because of its light weight, and I liked the easily adjustable shaft; short for hunting above me and the sides of the chutes and long for swinging in front when going downhill.
Will I do it again? Probably, but my feet and hamstrings have to rest first!
