Productive 4 hour hunt at NV ghost town

October 11, 2020 11:00AM
Headed out Saturday morning to a Nevada ghost town I've never been to. My intention was to start out using the Racer 2 but when I tried to hook up the Garrett z-lynk system to it I found the transmitter was dead. Weird because I had just charged it the night before. So pulled out the Deus with the 9" HF coil. I used custom settings based off the deep program. 31 KHz, sensitivity 90, disc 8.7, iron volume 1, silencer -1, reactivity 4, 3 tones with breaks at 8.7 and 70, xy graph was used also as it helps me ID iron targets.

First hour was uneventful as I just trying to come up with a plan to navigate the sea of bottle caps and flat tin. I finally decided to concentrate on a ravine on the backside of the town. First good signal turns up a 1904 IHP and less than 1 foot away the second signal is an1897 V nickel. At that point I felt like even if I didn't find anything else my trip was a success. On the way back to the truck for lunch climbing the side of the ravine I got a solid 71 in the middle of a bunch of flattened tin cans, which turned out to be a Chinese cash coin.

After lunch I headed back to the ravine and started working it down. Two newer coins, a dime and nickel gave me a scare at one point. About a hour before it was time to leave I was thinking wouldn't it be nice to find a token from --------------, NV, the town I was hunting. Well not 20 minutes later up turns a token good for one drink or cigar from -----------------, NV. Now the trip was complete. But not over because on the final walk back to the truck I found what looks to be an 1899 V nickel.

The trip turned out to be better than I expected. I really needed more than 4 hours but you take what you can get when family is along and not everyone shares your enthusiasm. One day I hope to return but it will take a 3 day weekend to make the 6 hour drive from my house worth it. Don't get me wrong I like road trips but anymore I try to stay close to home so I have more hunt time vs drive time. Hope everyone has a chance to get out this fall before the snow flies. Happy Hunting.

Thanks Andrew, I figured that's why we didn't see the token face. ... I added some photos. Attachments
