The 2" Indian Head Cent and a lot of the other targets I saw in the video certainly didn't call for an SMF to find them.
In my recent "General Metal Detecting" post, where I found two 1905 Indian Head cents using a Tesoro Bandido II uMAX and 7" search coil I knew for that day's hunt the Tesoro was all that was needed. My buddy that day, Scott, had his new Equinox with 11" coil. He certainly could have easily found those two coins had he gone over them. My point being that SMF and large search coils are not always needed or desired. The key to good finds is having good sites to search and well-knowing how to use the detector you have and how to interpret its audio and ID readings.
