I need a smaller coil.

Rich, I've tested the 9" on the Deus compared to 6" on the NOX and 5" NEL on the Apex. These on Monte's nail board test (highly respected by me) in particular the #4 direction with an IH penny on #2 position. That test is the toughest for all the detectors I have, excepting 2 parallel nails, spaced about 4" apart, with a coin in the middle.

While the Nox and Apex will give you a blip, if you are slow and careful, the Deus 2, for all intents and purposes misses the target.

If you can better this, please let me know and how you had the Deus configured. I'm considering selling the Deus 2 and getting Nox 900 (or Manticore) instead. I'd then have 2 Noxes and 2 Apexes, which covers everything I need and I don't have to memorize how to use several machines. Too hard on my old brain.
