That ski mountain provided all of my silver dollars found to date and a number of my silver halves as well. Lots of great memories hunting those ski slopes.
I don't recall after 30+ years, but was it you or do you know who it was in Utah who found 18 Silver Dollars on the ski slopes that Gary Weeks wrote about in his book?

Thanks to early-day rope tows as well as folks carrying more coins for everyday use, ski areas had a very impressive amount of coins in general, but also a high percentage of silver Halves and Dollars that were needed to get up the slope by rope towns and then chair lifts. Yes, those were more good memory-maker days from long ago.

The Compass XP-Pro was a really solid detector. Glad that you caught things early in their introduction and got them set right.
Yes, it was for the period it was introduced. I had absolutely no use for the XP 350 or XP 450 Scanners, but the XP Pro , when calibrated properly, was one I liked, as well, as the Gold Scanner where the operator had direct control of the Ground Balance. They were the first "3-filter" detectors in the industry about 12-13 years before the White's MXT came on the scene. To bad they came right at the time Compass was struggling, then sold, and it was all down-hill from there. sad smiley

As I mentioned above checking over my EQ800, the ability to see a stack of large silver coins seems to be tied directly to the Recovery Setting. I have my Racer 2 packed away at the moment but know there is a difference in the Recovery speed between 3-Tone, 2-Tone and Deep. The 3-tone is very fast, but not very deep. 2-tone is slower, but quite a bit deeper, and Deep is the slowest in recovery but far and away the deepest. Thought it would make for a good test machine.
Yes, the Racer 2, as you well know, is a very capable detector for most types of hunting, and small-coil equipped it is deadly in the iron plagued ghost towns and similar sites we enjoy.

But if you unpack it and give it the same 'tests' it will be interesting to hear the results you get.

Interested to know your thoughts here.
I will gladly share my thoughts on the results of various detectors, but I am going to hold off until we get more posts on how other detectors handle this test scenario. I wouldn't want to spoil the party by sharing my thoughts just yet. eye rolling smiley

I got drawn away from the computer earlier today on a response to your initial test results so I think I'll wrap that up next.

5 should work but 6 is what I use to match 6 coins in the Half & Dollar stack.
