Re: Don't see much interest from others on this Monte.

This has grabbed my attention, but of course i dont have access too US silver coinage,so i have used our silver hammered coins instead, these are predominately the coins that i am after as well as the gold equivalent.

This may not be a fair test as per your US test, but our silvered hammered going back a 1000 years or more and can vary in silver content which depends on how much was available at the time, same with gold coins as some could be of a higher quality than others, once again these coins can vary as well.

Did try starting off using the T2 with Sharpshooter coil and used both AM and discrimination as well, started of using one silver coin then 2 etc and having a stack of 6-8 of them and the T2 bangs out a decent signal on all of them even stacked up on top of one another. The same with gold celtic gold staters once again all give a decent signal. When using the small 5'' coil even roman nails around the stack still hits the coins with ease,of course not sure if its our silver coins are a fair comparisons.with US silver ones, but at least we have tried.

As mentioned our main targets are silver and gold hammered coins,so usually i run with discrimination at zero on machines like say the T2,Deus,IDX Pro,Nexus and also if the ground conditions are high mineral content then i use one of 3 Pulse machines the main being the TDI Pro.Of course a Pulse is only used for pure depth or when you cannot use a VLF machine, but VLF detectors are the most used but usually when doing so i either use minimum discrimination normally zero or of late AM mode and in most cases smaller coils than normal usually in the 5-8'' range and occasionally when the ground conditions are littered on roman/saxon sites with roman hob nails then a Tesoro with a 4'' coil or T2 5'' coil is the weapon of choice.

So although we attempted a stack of silver coins, because ours are much older and also slightly different silver contents the result could/would vary from the US test result. All my detectors passed with smaller coils on passed a stack of 6 silver stacked coins and also with nails around the stack,if the test was done with say stock coils or larger then i am sure the tests would provide different results due to target masking, but as i mainly use sub 8'' coils and usually in the 6'' range then one does not have much trouble with non desirable targets like roman hob nails from marching boots.Pulltabs are not a problem for me only on beaches, but silver foil can be a problem and if you knock out silver foil you will also knock out our most desirable targets the silver hammered and gold coins,so discrimination kept too a minimum or zero or even AM is the best option.

Of course this is just how i found this test using totally different coins from the US one,and the tactics and methods i use for hunting for my desired silver finds.

Deus and Nexus MP.

DFX,IDX Pro,TDI Pro,Crossbow Pulse,Mirage Pulse,Fisher TW-5 twin box,UK Vaquero,Arado 120b,Nexus SE mainly site specific use machines.

5 should work but 6 is what I use to match 6 coins in the Half & Dollar stack.
