► Monte's results with his 9 different models.

December 29, 2018 11:36AM avatar
I used 9 models / 13 different units and then used TWO different Test Stacks of silver coins as follows:

Test Stack #1: My regular Test Scenario of 5-Silver Walking Liberty Halves stacked on top of 1-Silver Peace Dollar. All bare metal and touching, and taped together to keep them from slipping off-center.

Test Stack #2-2 to #2-5: I then used a mix of 5 Silver Morgan Dollars (1921, 1887, 1922, 1921 and 1889) and described the number of Silver Dollars in the stack as #2-2 and #2-3, #2-4 and #2-5. All coins were bare metal for complete touching.

Test Stack #3: This included Test Stack #2-5 with Test Scenario Stack #1 centered on top of the 5 Silver Dollars.

Other than Test Stack #1 being all 6 coins taped to hold in position with clear tape, all Test Sample coins were not carded, in a plastic bag or container, or have anything separating coins from touching when stacked.

Thus, Test Stack #1 contained 6 Silver Coins: 5-halves and 1-Dollar. Test Stack #2-5 included 5-Silver Dollars stacked. And Test Stack #3 had a total of 6-Silver Dollars and 5-Silver Halves for a total of 11 Silver Coins in the total stack.

Due to a light snow and a temp of 27° at 5 AM, I decided to conduct this big-silver stacking comparison in my living room. All detectors had some amount of EMI, and there are nails in the flooring under the carpet.

That made a total of 6-Silver Dollars and 5-Silver Half-Dollars mixed in a single straight stack as described. I only used the search coils I keep mounted for regular day-to-day use and didn't switch any search coils around EXCEPT for also checking the Anfibio Multi with the stock 11" DD coil. Also, with only three exceptions, and because I was indoors and not on any grass or dirt, I left the Ground Balance as it would be for all these models at 'turn-on', but did use two mineral samples I have on-hand for seminars to manually adjust the GB of three models. After the initial test I manually adjusted the Nokta CoRe's, Nokta Relic's, and Teknetics Omega w/5" DD to perform a second test..

Detectors and Search Coils Tested:

Nokta FORS CoRe w/4.7X5.2 DD 'OOR'
Nokta FORS CoRe w/5X9½ DD
Nokta FORS Relic w/5" DD
Nokta FORS Relic w/5X9½ DD
Nokta-Makro Anfibio Multi w/7" Concentric as well as 11" DD.

Fisher F44 w/7" Concentric

Teknetics Omega 8000 w/5" DD
Teknetics Omega 8000 w/7" Concentric

Tesoro Bandido II µMAX (2) w/6" Concentric
Tesoro Silver Sabre µMAX w/6" Concentric

White's modified Classic ID w/5½" Concentric Ferret
White's MX-7 w/6½" Concentric

Detector Settings Used:

Both FORS CoRe's with Disc. at '10' to just accept Iron Nails. 2-Tone Sensitivity '95' and 3-Tone at '99.'
Both FORS Relic's with Disc. at '05' to Accept Iron Nails. 2-Tone Sensitivity at '95' and 3-Tone at '99.'
Anfibio Multi with Disc. at '03' to Accept Iron Nails, 2-Tone Sensitivity at '95' and 3-Tone at '99.'

Fisher F44 with Disc. to Reject all Ferrous range and also to Accept all the Ferrous range, and full Sensitivity at '20.'

Teknetics Omega 8000 with Disc. at '20' in both 2-Tone and 3-Tone modes, and full Sensitivity at '99.'

Tesoro Bandido II µMAX at Minimum Disc. and Full Sensitivity.
Tesoro Silver Sabre µMAX at Minimum Disc. and Full Sensitivity.

White's modified Classic ID Disc. set to just reject Iron Nails and Full Sensitivity.
White's MX-7 with Disc to Reject -10 and below, and Sensitivity set at '8' out of '10.'

Reporting the Results: With the model and coil used, for the different test Scenarios, I will use Pass for a very solid and clear Audio response or Fail if there is No Audio response or one that is annoyingly broken up and inconsistent. Also a VDI-T for a Tight numeric read-out, VDI-C for a numeric response that if Close to a tight read-out, and VDI-J for an inconsistent and Jumpy VDI response.

There are a couple of things that might be obvious to consider in the above results.thinking

Rich: Did you check the Eq-800 only with simultaneous frequencies supposedly working, or did you also test the '800' in individual frequencies? also, how about checking you other detectors and report back.

NOTE: In the above results the 'Pass' and 'Fail' Audio is pretty straight forward. If it is breaking up or inconsistent, kind of like hitting rusty tin, then that is a Fail in my book. A Pass audio response would be a clean and clear audio w/o chatter, break-up, etc.

Monte

Interesting PS: This has taken a while and one of the phone calls I had was from Oregon Gregg. While on the phone I did check out two more set-ups, and one is a budget, lower-end from White's. It's the Treasure Pro that comes standard with a too-big 11" DD coil. I tried Test Stack #1 and Test Stack #2-5 that were set down separately and on the default Coin & Jewelry Program it gave am Audio Pass and VDI-T response. It Failed to pass the Test Stack #3.
