Rich(Utah), 'Thank You' for the information.

I wasn't sure who it was that Gary had referred to, keeping the name out of his book. Joe was one of the good guys who enjoyed detecting and, as both a Dealer and a dedicated detectorist, he really enjoyed his White's models.

I tried a few of the earlier models from the latter '80s that were factory hip-mountable, but of them it was a White's 6000 D Series 2 or Series 3 that I liked the best, but they were better for urban hunting which, at the time, I was doing very little of compared to hitting 'Twin Flats' Utah and the other towns and homesteads on over into Nevada, or up into Wyoming. A hip mounted detector just didn't make friends very well with all of the sage brush, dense weedy growth and building rubble in most of the places.

When I bought the choice condition Mark I Ltd. several months back, the fellow sent two of them to me to choose between. One was set up for hip-mounting with the rings on the corners of the housing. It didn't use a platform, but was suspended with a strap around you neck, and the controls were worked with your off-hand while the hand you favor worked the rod and search coil. Both were in very nice condition, but I didn't care for the off-side mounted version and only had enough pocket carry from another detector sale to buy one of them. I took the standard version.

George Payne brought the detecting world the CoinComputer 8500 and 9000 with visual Target ID, and then he incorporated the 'B' versions which featured audio Tone ID. Then there was the Mark I Ltd. with the very slow-motion performance and very functional visual and tone features. Both of those I had to select from were manufactured in 1986. Here it is, 32 years later (or 33 years in just an hour or so), and this unit looks great and performs just the way they used to.
