Found this from compass forum. I had no idea. Assumed a silver hoard would scream dig me.
Thanks for that info as well. I've been sidetracked and haven't popped on there for about 7-10 days so I didn't see dixiedigger57's post. I'll visit the Compass Forum when I am finished here. Yes, this 'test' I proposed for folks to try is another one I have used for a long time when evaluating detectors. You registered a couple of years ago ... maybe you ought to visit more often.smileys with diet Dr. Pepper float

This isn't really much of a 'hoard' or a 'cache' as such, more like a 'stash' of hidden silver coins that could be stacked somewhere under a floor, perhaps in a cloth or leather bag or other non-metal container, and not a loose and scattered situation where you'd be getting a signal on just one or two coins at a time.

I had walking liberty 1oz coins easily accessible so that's what I used. Dates 1989 to 2018. Snow storm. Basement testing.
Those work great! A Morgan Silver Dollar, for example weighs about (with rounding) .943 Ounces, so your stack of 1 Oz. silver rounds didn't cut any corners. It does make a fun indoor or outdoor exercise in learning what our detectors can and can't find.

I'll add my coments in your quoted text below in black.

I used whatever coil I keep on normally.
King cobra 8"coil. 6 coins stacked FAIL... Could possibly be the preset GB is too positive.
5500 d s3 sl 15" coil. 6 coins stacked FAIL... Where was the setting for Disc. and GB?
1265x 5" coil. 6 coins stacked PASS. 16 coins stacked PASS
1266x 3" coil. 6 coins stacked PASS. 16 coins stacked PASS
Wilson R&C 2 7"coil. 6 coins stacked PASS. 16 coins stacked PASS
Red racer 7" coil. 6 coins stacked FAIL... Did you GB first, and how much Disc.?
DFX 4x6 coil 6 coins stacked PASS 16 coins stacked PASS. Single frequency 3 best results.... That frequency would do better.
V3i 5.3 coil. 6 coins stacked PASS. 16 coins stacked PASS. Single frequency 2.5 best results. Single frequency 22.5 (normalized)had a vdi of -35 on both stacks.... Also makes sense the 2.5 kHz worked better, and the higher frequency struggled. That was a low, ferrous-range VDI, Was there any iffy or questionable audio that sounded dig-worthy, or just a bad junk-like signal?

Thanks for the info. Had know idea a stack of silver could sound so bad.
Trust me, you're not alone. In my Seminar 'Test Sample' Jug I use an easier 'test' which is the Test #1 with 5 Silver Walking Liberty Halves stacked on top of 1 Silver Peace Dollar. I have seen CTX 3030's, E-Trac's, Equinox 800's and XP Deus fail to pass those tests as well as many older and modern/current detectors. I add the other 5 Silver Dollar under that stack to really make an interesting challenge.

Again, 'Thank You' for your participation in this testing.
