Re: Zinc Pennies, the unwanted coin.

You know Roger, I'm kinda w/ you. At least it's something to hone the skills on. And, i find an odd IHP and old wheats as a byproduct. An occassional silver ring comes in there also.

I take all of them and throw them in my tumber with borax, dish soap, and walnut shells and when they come out....as long as they are mostly round and they are still identifiable as a penny, i roll them up and take them to the bank. Still legal tender, and they are clean.

I did some research on returning the old junkers, and the bank no longer turns them into the fed repository. We can turn them in ourselves, but the shipping probably makes it a negative investment no matter how large the bag.

The really trashed coins go into a jar and i intend to grind them up and sprinkle them on my roof to kill off the moss.

Anyway, here on the wet side, they seem to almost disolve in the ground after something approach 40 years, so the earlier ones may not even bother us as they get reclaimed by the soil.
