Hey Rich ill try and answer a few of your concerns. Lets say u forget to charge your headphones. Here's your options.
1 u can grab your EQ 800 wireless headphones and plug them into the remote and use them.
2 u could grab any pair of ear buds and plug them into the remote and use it like that. Any headphones with the 3.5mm will plug in. I use to use my tdk wireless headphones and dongle with the xp.

As far as charging on the fly goes. For coil it would tuff because of the charge clip design. The new coils have quick change batteries so would be know reason for this. They do make quick chargers that will fully charge the coils i think it was in 30 minutes. Like i said before unless u can hunt for like 18hrs straight i dont think u will ever have this worry. Especially if u buy new. As far as coil prices go yes they are expensive. But i picked up a like new xp high freq coil for $175 not long ago. Talk to dealers price shop around. Dealers will come down a bit on prices.

As much experience as u have detecting i dont think u would have a long learning curve. I dont it would be any harder than learning the EQ 800.

As far as the interface user ability goes its fairly easy. Compared to the EQ 800 maybe a little harder, only because of a few more options to use. U can still turn on the Xp and go. Lots of great built in programs to choose from that simply find the goods without needing any adjustments, imcluding ground balancing.

As far as being successful with deus or ORX? Yes u will be successful with both. ORX is just a more simplified verion of the Deus. U will get the same power and separation of the deus in the ORX tho. Just less user adjustability.

I would start out with a 9" round coil setup. I have found that the 9" round goes as deep as most machines with 11" coils but twice the separation. After that if u think u need more separation then find yourself a High freq 9x5 coil.

If u dont feel like making a huge investment in another machine u could find yourself a used xp with just a low freq 9" for pretty cheap. Ive been watching them sell for 600-650. Then if ya like buy a High freq coil. Rich if ya like give me a call ill pm ya my number. I can further explain things. Or even make a youtube vid of the remote and coils or whatever and let u look and things up close lol
