Re: "Tesoro is out, Treasure Magazine is out, most Clubs are out ..."

I think you are "right on" with your over all evaluation of this situation Monte.-----And you know what---it makes me sad---in that we (and some others) have come through the "glory days" of metal detecting & this great hobby (to get to the point where we are now at).---Not to sound like a "downer"--but---people are wearing & loosing fake jewelry (bad for the beach hunters)----all that is being lost in the parks & elsewhere (coin wise) now days are clad coins & zincs.----We are in a final "clean up mode") in that we're cleaning up the crumbs of whatever may be left in the line of old coins in various areas.----I'm believing more & more that trash is the last frontier for finding these coins (more so than depth).------I don't know what the next generation are going to have as far as metal detecting goes---perhaps they will come out with a REAL ground breaking technology that we never had.------At times I tell Patsy (as far as the world in general goes) "I don't know what kind of a world we are leaving the next generation".-------The only thing I would disagree with you on is the fact that I don't think T.V. shows are in the best interest for the hobby---no matter how well done.-------------Del

and let's not forget most Local Dealers are out as well.

There are only a few 'pockets' of areas in more populated metro areas around the entire USA where you can make a casual drive around town and spot many people out enjoying this sport like we used to see from the mid-'70s through the early '90s. I don't believe we'll ever see a resurgence in this country anywhere near the level of interest and activity the metal detecting industry once enjoyed.

While some of the YouTube and other videos and TV series that involve metal detectors can be of interest, for both entertainment and knowledge, I see it more like a bushel basket with too many bad apples.

Even a lot of the manufacturer's videos fall short of being much of a quality product so I'll give a thumbs up to those detector makers who also present the general public with quality-level visual productions.
