I ran across this video on YouTube.

It's just OK, I think. I just introduced someone to metal detecting, and the first thing I want them to learn is how to get the target and leave no trace.
I differ somewhat from this video in 2 areas.
1) Probe and screwdriver: After probing, I only push the screwdriver under the coin and pry it up about 1/2". Then I put my finger in, under the coin, put the screwdriver back in, on top of the coin, and pull it out.
2) Plug: I prefer to cut a "V" in the sod.Pry it up by its hinge, retrieve the target, then push the V back into the hole. No need to remove dirt.
Does anyone know of a better video that we can direct beginners to?
I can't emphasize enough the use of an electronic pinpointer along with your preferred method of probing or ues a hand trowel, I use a predator model 85 and never leave a trace.
