George, this is a great topic. Question for Harold,ILL

April 19, 2019 05:45PM avatar
George,

I have to chime in and say that I think this is a great topic as well. One that we're going to find has lots of opinions aside from any scientific facts.

Not sure that I have much to contribute here as I've been using DD coils on my Minelab's since back in 2000. My current Main Use detector (Equinox 800) doesn't have a Concentric option coil and neither does my Monte type site backup, the Nokta FORS CoRe. I do have several machines with concentric coils but in generally they are NOT my first choice for DEEP coin hunting in my typical urban spots.

That said, I do not currently own a Fisher CZ-5 / CZ-6a / CZ-3D. Based on previous experience, if I had to select a detector for DEEP coin hunting in urban areas that used a Concentric Coil, this would be my choice. And I would select the 8" coil over the 10.5". Just me.

Harold has been having success finding deeper coins with his Golden ┬ÁMax with an 8" coil. I have both an original Bandido and a Bandido II ┬ÁMax as well as a variety of 8" Tesoro Coils I can select for hunting. I've just not thought of either as my best option for deep coins in an urban area. Harold, do you think I'm missing the boat here and should I break out one or both of them for the Ogden WTHO ?

Interest to know thoughts here.

edit:

Just to add since this has been moved from the Tesoro page to the General Detecting Page - If I'm looking for deep silver dimes in an urban situation, I like what I am currently using, my 800 sporting the EQX11" DD coil. I do have the EQX6" DD coil available if I feel there is a benefit, but I am pleased with my results so far with the 800 /stock coil.

Just a thought or two regarding coil size selection.
